In Choosing Yoga… - Posted on January 18
Written By Emma Kennedy/ Siri Kartar
I feel we may all agree that a subtle yet profound event has occurred when we find ourselves at a yoga class. Before we even unroll the mat our inner knowing holds this to be true.
Why is this? I believe that in choosing yoga rather than squash or marathon running, we are communicating a need, not just for improved physical fitness, but we are a demand for self-healing and self-empowerment.
We are clearly stating that we want to function better, feel better, be more compassionate human beings both unto ourselves and others and are now taking actions that are in alignment with this.
It also highlights the important step of “acknowledgement”. We acknowledged that there was something not quite working for us. Perhaps we had been feeling underwhelmed or overwhelmed by life. Overly stressed and anxious or depressed and lethargic, or perhaps that “niggling” feeling was inwardly etching away. A feeling of, “there has to be something more”… Read More
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - Posted on January 6
Written By Erika Newberry
You may have heard your teacher talk about the ‘Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’ in class before or perhaps your teacher focused on one for that particular class. The Sutras of Patanjali is a guideline for how to live a yogic life and were written by an Indian sage approximately 2000 years ago. Sutras are loosely translated as ‘threads’ and are simple ideas or statements that lead on to one another. Practicing asana (yoga postures) while concentrating on a yoga sutra is great way to explore the perception we have about ourselves and to broaden or expand our self-made boundaries of who and what we are. Finding Balance Through Yoga - Posted on December 9
Written By Atira Tan
In our busy lives today, with our day-to-day responsibilities of relationships, children and work, it can be challenging finding balance in daily life. We live in a society that encourages us to do things quickly and be productive, and our state of happiness and validation comes from achieving, instead of focusing on cultivating an inner contentment and happiness. When that happens, our inner needs can often feel out of balance when we disconnect ourselves from what we really need on the inside to nourish and nurture ourselves back to wholeness. Read More
Food for the Brain – Omega 3 DHA - Posted on December 8

The Western diet has changed a lot in the last 20 to 50 years, not only with the choices we make about what to eat, but how the food is grown and manufactured. Increasingly our soils are being depleted of essential minerals and our food is heavily processed which robs it even more. Read More
ARE YOU NEW TO YOGA? Here are a few tips to get you started: - Posted on November 28
Written By Rhonda Weatherby
1. A good place to start is to consider your intentions with yoga. Ask yourself what you want from Yoga? Is it for a physical practice, a mental practice, a spiritual practice, a devotional practice or a more intellectual pursuit? Either way all paths of yoga lead to union of the mind and body.
2. Have an Open Heart and Open Mind when coming to yoga. It helps to be open to the new. Yoga to the uninitiated can come across as being ‘new age’, weird postures, movements and sounds, to allow the full effect of Yoga to impact you; you need to come with an open mind. Oh, and by the way, the commonality of New Age and Yoga is that they are both about connecting the Mind/Body together.
3. Invite a friend to share the experience, not only for support, but also for camaraderie, after all that’s what friendship is about – shared experiences!. Read More.
11 things to remember when living in the Aquarian Age - Posted on November 22
Written By Billie Atherstone
1. The Aquarian Age is characterised by “We do it together” rather than “I do it for myself” or “I do what I want”. Ask yourself “Who should I be doing it with?” rather than “What do I do?”
2. Intellect is not enough. Build your relationship to intuition, emotion and instinct.
3. There is a sense that we have less time and life is moving faster. Remember to have gratitude for what is around us, realise the gift of each moment and express loving kindness and unity, to help ease your fears and insecurity.. Read More.

Pranayama – a way to get connected! - Posted on November 21
Written By Julie Fowler
My favorite aspect of Kundalini yoga today (because it always changes) is the breath work. Before any actual poses – sitting and focusing on the breath allows us to drop into the here and now, reacquainting ourselves with our higher-self. It feels good to get reconnected! In Kundalini yoga we tend to use a lot of pranayama (breath work), particularly ‘breath of fire’ and this helps to heal the nervous system and gain even more out of a pose. Read More.
Finding it hard to get motivated for your Yoga practice? Try our top tips!- Posted on November 18
Written By Erika Newberry
1. Get Educated
Have you ever been in a class and wondered what the benefits are of placing our body in these strange positions? There are so many great yoga resources out there, you only need to get out your iphone, use our dear friend the ‘internet’, lie in the sunshine (with sunscreen on of course) to read a good yoga book or ask one of your yoga teachers. We love it when you ask questions!
Take a look yoga anatomy, the affects that a pose has on each of the systems of the body. Learn about the 8 limbs of yoga, different styles of yoga or yoga history. There is just so much to learn and the information really is at our fingertips. Having a deeper understanding of our practice can be transforming!
2. Svadhyaya / Self Study or Self Inquiry
Once we’ve gained this knowledge it’s inevitable that we will want to explore and apply it to our practice. We are no longer just reading about yoga in books or listening to our teacher in class but we begin to create our own experience of yoga. We observe our body and our mind. We know that when we alter our pose slightly that it changes everything else in the posture. We notice when our mind is in ‘turbo mode’ and we know what we can do to move it into ‘stillness’. This is an exciting element of our practice and we become childlike with an ongoing curious attitude!
3. Take the NIKE approach and ‘Just do it’!
We can easily think up excuses not to practice but sometime we just need to get on in there and ‘just do it’! We all know what an amazing feeling we experience when we come out of a yoga class. Use this feeling as your motivation to get yourself on the mat! Read More.
Preparing for Birth with Guided Breathing and Deep Relaxation- Posted on November 18
Written By Nina Isabella
In her wonderful book Gentle Birth Choices, Barbara Harper talks about the profound benefits of regularly practicing deep guided relaxation during pregnancy. Harper states that during labour, women experience an altered state of consciousness.
Knowing this gives us the superb opportunity to work with the body’s innate desire to rest during labour. When a birthing woman consciously breaths and rests in labour, she is better able to release the intensity that builds in her body with each contraction. Read More.
Keeping in Balance!- Posted on November 16
Written By Julie Fowler / Hari Kirtan
Life is about balance, how many time have we heard this? It’s not easy in this culture, especially this time of year. A major part of being able to balance is to do with our 3rd chakra or the navel point. Whether you’re winding down or gearing up, it always helps to be in balance. The 3rd chakra has the element of fire and the colour yellow, when dressing from this chakra your colours are bright and eye catching. Its theme is- will of the spiritual warrior. Giving us action, propelling us into whatever aids our future. It is said that good health develops from this chakra, strengthening our choices to eat better and live healthier. Read More
The Gift of Kindness; World Kindness Day – 13th November- Posted on November 15

It’s oh so easy to get caught up in our day to day lives and forget what our motivation is for the decisions that we make. Are our decisions based on what we value the most? Have we all just become so caught up in the rat race that we have forgotten one simple attitude……to be kind?. Read More

Time to Talk About it – The Hidden Grief of Miscarriage - Posted on October 26
Written by Renee Knott
Last week I received the following message on my Facebook :
“This week we remember all the babies born sleeping or whom we have carried but never met, or those we have held but couldn’t take home or the ones that came home but didn’t stay. Make this your profile status if you or someone you know has suffered the loss of a baby. The majority won’t do it because, unlike cancer, baby loss is still a taboo subject. Break the silence. In memory of all angels.”
And it’s true. Losing a baby (either through miscarriage, stillbirth or termination) is not something we discuss readily or openly. There are no formal avenues for acknowledging the loss of a pregnancy in our culture, nor any rituals to help process the grief.

Inviting prosperity into life!- Posted on September 27

I think we may of all, at some stage in our lives and perhaps right now, have felt the financial pinch. There are so many obvious expenses in our lives as well as those sneaky expenses which we forget about or choose to not notice.
I know that now I have two small children, money seems to disappear before my eyes. It makes me remember and become aware at how being in a ‘challenged’ financial situation initiates a response within my mind. I begin to wrestle with the idea that ‘I am abundant/I have all I need’ against ‘I must not spend money/I can’t afford to’.
Ok, so it’s time to reassure my mind and reiterate some positive affirmations towards prosperity and my life…Read More.

To meditate or not to meditate, there really is no question. - Posted on September 22
Written by Melissa Laing (Ravi Har Kaur)
Yogi Bhajan describes meditation as “the art of breaking habits, to purify the mind and to take care of the day-to-day things”. In his lecture, ‘Meditation: a simple process’ he states the following: “Meditation is a process. When the dawn comes, the sun power, the ray energy, is more scattered and the mind is not controllable. At any time which is peaceful—the best is early morning time, before the dawn—you’ll be surprised, that in a couple of minutes, a lot of thoughts will start coming to you—those thoughts which you do not want to touch—the x-rated thoughts, the ugly, angry thoughts, all those kind of thoughts. If you let those thoughts pass by, this is meditation. Read More.

Be with the Heart - Posted on September 8

We recently celebrated Kundalini Yoga at the annual Kundalini Yoga Festival of light. The day focused on the heart centre. It was a wonderful day of community, sharing the technology of Kundalini Yoga and awakening the expansive space of the heart.
Anjali Mudra at the Heart CentreThe heart chakra is the fourth spiritual centre within all of us. Physically located at the chest area, we can feel into this space by placing our hands over the chest. This connection of hands to heart creates a space of silence, an immediate sense of connecting in to a grateful space of presence and remembering. An inner knowing. The heart centre is very much tied to the breath. By consciously breathing with a focus at the heart space, we awaken the heart centre.. Read More
The Wonderful World of Kundalini Yoga - Posted on September 8

Kundalini Yoga itself has been around for a very long time but only within the last 40 years or so has it been taught publicly. Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga, brought these teachings from India to the west in 1968 – firstly to Canada and then America. From there it has spread worldwide. Yogi Bhajan brought Kundalini Yoga to the West because the time is now upon us when we need this technology. We are strapped for time in all that we do. Few of us have the time to spend hour upon hour on our self development and wellbeing in this fast-paced world of the 21st century.. Read More
Learn 2 Vital Breaths for Life, Including Breath of Fire - Posted on September 7
Written by Billie Atherstone
There is one thing in life which we often overlook but is the foundation for living a happy and healthy life. It’s the breath. We can do without food and water for some time, but we can’t live without the breath.
When we breath correctly and breathe so that we use the entirity of the lungs there are many health benefits that follow. A full breath creates a movement throughout the whole spine and ribcage which helps stimulate the nerves, blood and cerebral spinal fluid to circulate through the spinal column. This in turn nourishes the organs and glands within the body and helps the brain function properly. Correct breathing will also improve your digestion. But that’s not all…. Read More

Not all stress is created equal. Stress is necessary for life. Stress you experience when a truck is hurtling towards you at 80kms helps you get out of the way fast! This instinctive response occurs in an area of the brain that is primarily concerned with our survival and without it the human race would be long gone. Mild forms of stress are good for you assisting with learning, creativity and your survival.
When stress overwhelms your nervous system your body is flooded with chemicals that prepare you for “fight or flight”. Yin & Yang; Yoga & a Meditation
Written by Gurudaya Kaur Khalsa
The theory of yin and yang is the principle upon which oriental medicine is based. These two opposing but complimentary forces create the momentum for the manifestation of all life.
The ever-changing balance of these two polarities gives rise to all cycles and seasons, all shades and shapes and patterns within the Universe.
Yin is the energy of the Earth, experienced as stillness, solidity and rest, while yang is the energy of heaven, seen in action, expansion and movement.
Just as any disharmony in nature is seen as an imbalance of these two forces, oriental medicine also views all illness in the same way. Read more
