Now is the perfect time to reawaken your body and welcome the spring with new energy and enthusiasm.  Working in the health industry and from our personal experience, we are very aware that our digestive functioning can be compromised and not working at its best at this time of year.  What most people don't realise is that when we give some simple attention to the health of our gut than we can experience life very differently.  With healthy structural integrity and functioning of the gastrointestinal tract we can feel calm and happy; our energy is light and sustaining; we can cope with stress much easier and our immune and nervous system is balanced.

What is involved in a 12 day cleanse?

Our 12 day cleanse is designed to help your body eliminate toxins acquired from foods, air and water as well as wastes produced by our normal bodily functions. The 12 days will give our system a well deserved rest so that our digestive tract and metabolic processes can function properly.

Over the 12 days we will cut out the big guys:

  • alcohol
  • caffeine
  • sugar
  • Wheat & Gluten
  • Dairy, natural yoghurt an exception
  • processed foods
  • smoking

And introduce the essentials to a cleanse:

  • Hydration - drinking up to 2L of water per day; beginning your day with hot water and a squeeze of lemon.

You will be supported on your 12 day journey by the Kundalini House team. Every 1-2 days you will be sent an email to help you along the way. Our team will educate you; inspire you; offer handy tips; share recipes; give support and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback on the facebook event page.

We acknowledge that this could be quite challenging for some, but doing it with a group can make such a difference. And besides, it is worth it!

Exercise - A vital part of cleansing!

It’s important to exercise while cleansing to support the body to shift out any stagnant energy, encourage circulation and distribute oxygen equally throughout the body. Springtime sun salutations are a wonderful way to support your body through a detox and make way for fresh life force and more energy.

Sun Salutations - Daily Yogic Practice

As part of this program we are suggesting that you commit to practicing Sun Salutations daily.  When practicing sun salutations alongside the detox program, toxins move out of the body at a much faster rate than if you don’t exercise. 

Sun salutes strengthen and lengthen all the major muscle groups and bring deeper focus to the act of breathing.  Each movement is coupled with the breath in a sun salutation. This means we get the chance to really focus on deeply inhaling and exhaling while we move. The benefits of bringing breath consciously into and out of the body are many. The slower and deeper you breathe the more calm you become the mind relaxes.

A great way to monitor how you’re feeling during the practice is to notice the breath. If the breath is becoming short and fast, then you may like to slow the practice down so you can maintain a balanced practice that is right for you, your fitness level and how much energy you have on that particular day.

Choose from one of the three sun salutation samples provided. The first is a wonderful moving sun salutation to open up the body. The second progresses from that first series with some additional postures you can add for a stronger or longer practice. The third series is a more gentle series for the days you are feeling like you need a more quiet, nurturing practice. This series is also good for those recovering from illness or who are new to a yoga practice.

Here are some ways to make your daily practice do-able:

  • Try and practice it the same time everyday. Ideally, it is best to practice it every morning between 4am-8am. This is when the energy of the day (& you) is much quieter and calmer. But practicing it before bed is also fine and can suit some people, such as parents, those who begin work early etc.
  • Create a space in your house where you are comfortable. Create a sacred space where you can easily practice each day. You may be able to make a little alter with candles etc or it may simply be that you have a clear space where you can roll out your mat.

IINDIVIDUALISED PROGRAM
12 days & beyond

If you have health concerns that need more attention such as fatigue, headaches, skin complaints, allergies, constipation, diarrhoea or IBS or if you feel your system is quite toxic, then we recommend you get individualised support from our Naturopathic detox specialists.

They can look at customizing a program to treat these complaints while removing parasites (surprisingly common), clearing more toxins and harmful bacteria from the gut and liver and further balancing the body. Anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks is usually recommended and nutritional and herbal products are used accordingly.

The importance of 'Re-Culturing the Bowel'

Things to know when cleansing:
  • Protein intake is essential during cleanses: There are high doses of amino acids found is protein sources.  These help support liver function and the detoxification process.  The Aminoplex, suggested above, will be a good source of protein, but be sure to include food sources such as tofu, tempeh, fish or chicken in your diet too.
  • Cleanses can make you feel awful: When we cleanse and detoxify it is quite normal to experience a mild headache or a little bloating in the stomach BUT this shouldn't be your experience throughout the 12 days.  If you are experiencing adverse affects from the cleanse this is a sign that you need more individual care.  An acupuncture treatment can help your body detox from caffeine and alcohol if you are experiencing headaches and pain OR our naturopaths can assess and adjust your cleansing program to ensure your cleanse will heal the presenting symptoms.  There may be parasite involvement; malabsorption; heavy metal toxicity; or an imbalance in liver function; thyroid function or with your blood sugar.
