Traditional Yoga & Movement Practices

Whether you are seeking greater mobility, flexibility, balance, strength or a deeper connection to yoga philosophy, these classes offer a range of approaches from dynamic flowing practices through to more contemplative and traditional forms of yoga.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is one of the foundational traditions of yoga and the basis from which many modern yoga styles have evolved. Through movement, breathwork, meditation and self-reflection, Hatha Yoga helps cultivate strength, flexibility, balance, resilience and inner awareness.

The word hatha comes from ha, meaning sun, and tha, meaning moon. In this way, Hatha Yoga seeks to balance and harmonise opposing energies within the body and mind.

Through asana (postures), the body is strengthened and made more flexible. Through pranayama (breathing), the nervous system, mind and emotions are supported and balanced. Through meditation, the mind becomes quieter and more focused, while self-enquiry helps cultivate deeper self-awareness and connection.

Suitable for all levels, Hatha Yoga offers a balanced practice that supports mobility, nervous system health, emotional wellbeing and overall vitality.

Vinyasa Yoga

Our Vinyasa Yoga Classes are a dynamic and invigorating experience, where you’ll seamlessly transition from one posture to another in a flowing sequence. The key is to challenge yourself physically and mentally as you build strength and flexibility. You’ll be moving with your breath, allowing it to guide you through a variety of postures. This class offers a harmonious blend of movement and mindfulness, fostering a sense of balance and inner peace.

This is suitable for all levels as modifications and variations will be offered.

Hatha Flow Yoga

In our Hatha Flow Yoga Classes, you’ll experience a graceful and soothing practice marked by a steady flow with some pauses. This class can include longer holds and static postures, fostering a slower pace that encourages you to find balance, calm the mind, and create space. It’s an opportunity to gently slow down and create a tranquil, meditative atmosphere.

This is suitable for all levels as modifications and variations will be offered.

Tantric Hatha Yoga

Breaking down the Sanskrit of Tantra into its two parts: TAN is to stretch, expand, and accelerate and TRA is to move beyond limits, to protect. Tantra isn’t a passive path, instead it is one that invites us to weave our sacred life with the mundane; and Hatha translates into force – a path for those wishing to use time-tested techniques to move towards their desires in life with vigor. Yoga has always been a system for self-mastery, far beyond just relaxation or fitness.

In Tantric Hatha we use the traditional Hatha structure of asana, bandha, pranayama and meditation plus the gold of Tantra: mantra, to embody the powerful tantric worldview as a way to fully embrace this life and to see all as divine.

Take a deep dive into enriching your understanding of a personal practice and how the ancient techniques of Tantra and Hatha Yoga can magnify and illuminate your life on and off the mat.

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world.  Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ~ Rumi

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is the perfect complement to our often busy, fast-paced lifestyles. While Yang represents activity, effort and outward focus, Yin invites us into stillness, rest, reflection and restoration.

In Yin Yoga, poses are held for longer periods while the body is supported by props and encouraged to relax. This allows us to work more deeply with the connective tissues of the body, supporting joint health, flexibility and ease of movement.

The longer holds also provide an opportunity to slow down, regulate the nervous system and cultivate greater awareness of the body, breath and mind. As we settle into each posture, we begin to explore our internal responses, develop mindfulness, and create space for rest, recovery and self-reflection.

Suitable for all levels, Yin Yoga offers a gentle yet powerful practice that supports mobility, resilience, emotional wellbeing and nervous system health.

Yin Yoga and Meditation

This 60-minute class is grounded in the principles of yoga as a practice of compassionate self-inquiry, rest and renewal.

A gentle, floor-based Yin practice, the class incorporates supported postures, mindful breathing and longer holds to release tension, encourage relaxation and support nervous system regulation. The slower pace invites you to turn inward, develop subtle body awareness and access the body’s natural relaxation response.

Avril thoughtfully weaves elements of psychotherapy and contemplative self-inquiry into her teaching, creating a nurturing space for reflection, restoration and emotional wellbeing.

Suitable for anyone seeking rest, recovery, stress reduction and a deeper connection with themselves.

yoga nidra class melbourne

Yoga Nidra & Sound Healing: Deep Rest and Renewal

Immerse yourself in a blissful hour of deep rest, restoration and renewal. This class blends the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra—often called “yogic sleep”—with the soothing vibrations of sound healing to support relaxation, nervous system regulation and recovery from the demands of daily life.

Yoga Nidra guides you into a state between waking and sleeping, where the body can release tension, the mind can become quieter, and deep rest can occur. Gentle guidance invites you to relax the body, settle the nervous system and cultivate a sense of ease, while visualisations and affirmations encourage balance, clarity and wellbeing.

As you rest comfortably, the resonant tones of singing bowls, chimes and other instruments create a rich soundscape that supports relaxation, presence and inner stillness.

The first week of each month features sound healing through the meditative art of japa (chanting). These sacred sounds, repeated with intention, create a rhythmic flow that calms the mind and centres awareness, preparing you for even deeper rest.

Whether you are seeking stress relief, nervous system support, emotional restoration, improved sleep, or simply a quiet moment to reconnect with yourself, this class is accessible to all. No previous yoga or meditation experience is required.

First Friday of the Month: Japa Chanting & Crystal Bowl Sound Healing

On the first Friday of each month, experience 30 minutes of crystal bowl resonance followed by 30 minutes of mantra chanting. In the words of the Upanishads, “Sound is the original vibration.” This special class explores sound as a pathway to presence, meditation and deeper awareness.

Class Time: Fridays 12:30pm–1:30pm with Rachel Hanrahan.

Integrative Qigong

Qigong is an ancient movement and meditation practice that originated in China over 4,000 years ago. Qi is often translated as “life force energy” and Gong refers to skill, cultivation or practice. Traditionally, Qigong is based on the understanding that health and wellbeing arise from the balanced and harmonious flow of Qi throughout the body.

Integrative Qigong combines gentle movement, mindful breathing, visualisation and meditation to cultivate greater awareness, vitality and inner calm. The slow, flowing movements encourage relaxation, improve mobility and balance, and support nervous system regulation while fostering a deeper connection between body, breath and mind.

Suitable for all ages and levels of experience, Qigong offers a gentle yet powerful practice for reducing stress, supporting healthy ageing, building resilience and cultivating a sense of presence and wellbeing.

Classes include gentle stretching, flowing movements, breath awareness and stillness-based meditation, creating a nourishing practice for both body and mind.

Qigong is deeply rooted in the philosophy and principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture. Like Acupuncture, it works with the cultivation and regulation of Qi, supporting balance, vitality and overall health through mindful movement, breath and awareness.

kundalini meditation melbourne

Kundalini Meditation

Kundalini Meditation draws on a range of yogic technologies—including breathwork, mantra, movement and focused awareness—to train the mind, deepen self-awareness and cultivate greater clarity, resilience and inner balance.

“When we meditate we begin where we are as we are. Then we steadily sharpen our consciousness, clear our mind and strengthen our body; this happens in stages. It doesn’t happen all at once nor can it be forced.”
— GuruCharan Singh Khalsa, PhD

This class provides an opportunity to explore Kundalini meditations, mantra and pranayama at a deeper level. Individual meditation, breathing and mantra practices are held for extended periods, typically between 22 and 31 minutes, allowing students to develop concentration, self-awareness and a deeper relationship with the practice. Physical warm-ups are included to prepare the body for seated meditation.

Regular meditation practice may support nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing, mental clarity, focus and resilience while cultivating a deeper connection with oneself.

Classes also include discussion and exploration of yogic teachings relating to the mind, body and consciousness. These conversations are designed to inspire commitment, deepen understanding and support the integration of the practices into everyday life.

While particularly suited to intermediate and experienced Kundalini Yoga students, beginners are also warmly welcome.
